The Raftaar!

"Aap ke dil ka Raftaar kya hai?" ... "How Fast does your heart beat?" ... "mee gunDe enta Vegam ga koTTukunTundi?" ... whenever you see, talk, or hear about the person you love, the pace or Raftaar of your heart beat increases. Whatever may be the underlying emotion that manifests itself into love for another human being, the increase in heart rate is greater than that when a person experiences fear or horror. This increase in the heart rate is greatest when you see your significant other.

This phenomenon is the inspiration behind Raftaar. The songs in Raftaar depict the various emotions of a person in love: the sweet sorrow of separation is captured in "Maihoon Tere Liye" - "O Mere Jaan-E-Jaana" explores the gentle approach to mischief in love - "Tere Hawaale Sanam" portrays the rowdy attempts at wooing with praise, "Jaan-E-Mann" is all about the jealousy in love, "Mastaana Musafir" is about how falling in love affects the attitude of a person and makes one feel invincible when in love, and finally X-War contains the message about saying no to war (X-War), to stop hatred and to promote love and international brotherhood.

The entire song of X-War or "ek swar" (One Note) has been composed using a single note of music. All of the song's lines including the first lines (Pallavi), the second lines (Anu-Pallavi), stanzas (Charanams) and change-ups (Anu-Charanams) are composed on a single musical note. In addition, get this... all of the song's musical pieces including the Intro, Breaks, Rifts, Interludes, and instrumental solos are all composed on the same single note.

Psychuck literally gave his heart and soul to this album. All of the songs in the CD have been composed, played and arranged by Psychuck. In addition to providing the music direction, Psychuck also wrote the lyrics and designed the concept for Raftaar. Lending his vocals to all of the songs including chorus makes Raftaar a true Solo Album by Psychuck.

Psymphony's flagship production Raftaar, is the first in a series of music albums being released by Psymphony to promote independent, talented and aspiring artists. Psymphony also announced its plans to launch dance albums and short musicals in colaboration with its international partners and distributors. Raftaar is scheduled to be released to the public on August 15th.

Antha Soham Album goes International

Antha Soham receives international recognition is set to become the first ghazal album in Telugu language to be distributed internationally. Released under the banner Psymphony, the album has received significant response when released locally in the US in late 2007 to select audience groups in both India and US.

Antha Soham contains a variety mix of Ghazal themes as per the rules set forth and dictated by the traditional practitioners of the genre, but with a Telugu twist. The music itself is a sophisticated blend of traditional tunes with a western touch and will serve as a harbinger to future experimentation trends to this age old art form. In this second edition release, Manapragada (Psychuck) experiments with base guitar in the duet note of the chordation while keeping the strings at the triad to compliment the primary notes of the tune of the song. Tallapragada's lyrics have received personal commendations from the likes of the great song writer and lyricist Padmabhushan and Gnaanpith award winner Shri. C. Narayana Reddy (Cinare). Psymphony is planning for a sequel to the CD to be released later this year.

The songs can be sampled at http://www.reverbnation.com/psychuck. A sneak peek at the songs for the sequel CD are also available at the site.

Meanwhile... Take the Telugu Ghazal poll... Suggest a name for "Ghazal"in telugu...

Stay tuned for exciting updates...

Software Wars: Protools vs Sonar (Much Rather Invest in Mixing Hardware than Software)

So, I heard a lotta buzz about Protools. Especially since the record labels and leading performers been using it like it's their second nature. Pure promotion. It's like Jon Stewart or Jay Leno talking about "twittering". Just pure promotion. It's a pretty cool way to promote the product though.

Checked it out to find out what the hype behind it is all about. Alas! It is nothing but yet another regular, albeit powerful, multi-track software tool, much like other mixing software "tools" like Sonar. I've been using Sonar like forever, since v2.1 to now v8. Thanks to my friend, I got a chance to check out Protools hands-on. Excellent software, but not much different from most other softwares I've used. Sure! it has some easy to use advance options in the export audio category like AC3, mp3, etc., which you should buy a separate license for, much like Sonar. The fact is most underlying encoding schemes are provided by third parties that pretty use standardized algorithms. Also talked to a friend who's been using Protools for quite some time now and came to the same conclusion.

At the end of the day, what really matter are the mics, mixers and sound cards. This is like that time when I tried Apple G5 for a few days to record instead of my regular PC and Windows ME laptop. No big difference. Faster sure, but so is my custom PC dedicated for recording. I'd rather upgrade my sound card to SBlive.

Musicians' love.

A true musician is an artist with musical senses who sees the world with his creative mind. A musician, like any other artist, lives, breathes and cherishes his art every moment of his being. Every true musician, no matter how great they get to be and no matter how accomplished they get to be, always aspire to be one with their music, to be recognized with their music and to be identified by their music. True musicians are full of humility who dedicate their entire life to their art. True musicians are eternal performers who long for the warmth and the love of their audience, a feeling that they cannot hide or compromise. This also rings true for singers.

It does not matter, who their audience is. It does not matter where they perform. It does not matter if anyone is in their audience or not. It does not matter if the material is in a foreign language. It does not matter what the lyrics are. It does not matter about the weather - warm, cold, hot or damp, rain or shine, day or night. It just doesn't matter! The show must go on.

I have seen all that and more in one man. Having seen this phenomenon first hand and having known a great musician, a great artist, a great singer, a great human being from whom I learn't everything including music, I can't help but think how fortunate I am to have personally spent time with a true friend, my dad. May his soul rest in peace!

Janapadabrahma Manapragada Narasimha Murthy Award for Excellence in Folk Arts

It's that time of the year again when the committee of FARMI (Folk Arts Research and Music Institute) meets with APSO (Amateur and Professional Singer's Organization) India to decide the festivities for the annual Folk Arts Festival to be held in Ravindra Bharathi, Hyderabad, India. The folklore arts' award ceremony will be followed by energetic and exuberant display of folk songs and dances. FARMI and APSO strive to sustain in endangered folklore arts of Andhra Pradesh.

The band is working to finalize its summer schedule. May have a couple live shows but mostly will be some heavy recording sessions. The market usually gets hot right before the summer for the school holidays in India, but continues to stay warm through out the rainy season.
